After amateur beginnings as a dancer and singer, Catherine Zeta-Jones turned professionally to the theatre. She then began in the cinema thanks to Philippe de Broca who spotted her on stage, when she was only 18 years old, and chose her to play the role of the sumptuous Scheherazade in his Thousand and One Nights (1990). It was, however, thanks to a British television series, Darling Buds of May, that in 1991 she became a renowned actress.
She goes on several supporting roles (including The Phantom of Bengal in 1996) before being noticed in a television mini-series (retracing the tragedy of the Titanic) by Steven Spielberg. The latter, then in the pre-production phase of The Mask of Zorro (1998), hired him to answer Antonio Banderas and Anthony Hopkins in the adventure film signed Martin Campbell.
A week later, Catherine Zeta-Jones plays the role that launches her career, that of the beating and proud daughter of Don Diego De La Vega. Her performance opens the doors to big-budget films for her: Entrapment, she plays a self-confident actress in the grip of The Haunting (1999).

In 2004, she found herself in front of Steven Spielberg's camera to answer Tom Hanks in The Terminal. She then joined the plethora of Ocean's 12 before returning, the following year, to the role of the beautiful Elena in the continuation of the adventures of the masked vigilante, The Legend of Zorro, always alongside Antonio Banderas.
But this time, the success is not there. She later returned to romantic comedy with No Reservations (2007) and The Rebound (2009), in which she played a divorced woman, seduced by a young man twenty years younger (played by Justin Bartha ).
After falling under the spell of Gerard Butler in Playing For Keeps, Catherine Zeta-Jones continues to focus on mainstream entertainment. She gives voice in Rock Forever (2012), then joined the same year Stephen Frears in the very poorly received Lady Vegas - The Memories of a player, where she plays the wife of a professional gambler played by Bruce Willis. More sublime than ever, the actress also returns to the thriller with Side Effects (2013), her third collaboration with Steven Soderbergh, and Broken City (id.), In the role of the adulterous wife of the mayor of New York, played by Russell Crowe.
Also in 2013, a decidedly busy year for the actress, Catherine Zeta-Jones found Bruce Willis for the needs of the action-comedy Red 2.
